Thank you so much for your comment. I actually had a chance to speak with some of the people in the photos, and they were just as curious about me as I was about them. We talked about where I’m from, what I do, and why I was in Varanasi. That exchange made the experience even more meaningful, a reminder that connection goes both ways. Greetings Dana 🙂
Thanks so much Scrivener. I’m really glad the chiaroscuro effect came through and that the evening ritual caught your eye. I have to admit though, some of the shots could’ve been sharper. Still learning, still refining, definitely working on improving my skill behind the lens. Appreciate your kind words and thoughtful feedback!
Thank you all so much for being so kind to me, both here in the comments and during my time in Varanasi. I felt truly welcomed, and the warmth I received made the experience even more meaningful. Grateful beyond words!
Thank you so much, KK! That means a lot, especially coming from someone who knows Varanasi so deeply. I’m sure my photos only scratch the surface of what the city truly holds, but I’m glad they could spark a bit of nostalgia.
You’ve done a remarkable job, Anna. The way you’ve captured the very soul of Varanasi – through its winding lanes and everyday residents- is truly commendable. Thank you, and you’re always most welcome. Namaste 🙏
Thank you so much, your words truly mean a lot. But I’ll keep walking, eyes open, heart steady. And you too, fellow wanderer, stay safe and keep speaking truth Anna.
One area I need to improve in with travel photography relates to my need to capture the mood of people’s faces in everyday life. Outstanding of you to show me some images that offer such glimpses of self reflection in India.
Thanks so much, Jim. I really appreciate your thoughtful words. You have a gift for weaving cultural details and personal reflections into your posts, which makes them rich in meaning.
I have to admit, I hadn’t heard of the Western Ghats before. When I googled them, I was genuinely surprised. The Western Ghats feel like nature’s cradle, alive. And then there’s Varanasi. A place where the air carries endings.
Varanasi truly left a profound impression on me. The Ghats and temples are indeed amazing, but when I visited, many of the ghats were submerged under the waters of the Ganges. It gave the whole place an even more mystical and surreal atmosphere. I’m grateful I had the chance to visit this holy city. Thank you so much for checking out the post and leaving a comment!
Please continue to bless us with these beautiful pictures. Now I am convinced that it does not matter where you go, your 📸 will transport us there. Blessings.
Thank you so much, that really means a lot. I love hearing that. And honestly, every time I go back through my photos, I notice something new. A detail I missed. They keep surprising me. I’ll keep sharing as long as the road keeps unfolding. Have a great day.
This is the holy city where my tabla teacher’s teacher lived and worked. It always seemed a magical place to me, filled with classical musical tradition.
Thank you so much for sharing that, Stolzy. It’s beautiful to hear how Varanasi resonates with you through music and memory. Grateful we could meet across stories and traditions 🙂
Lovely images of people going about their lives. I would love to have conversations with them and learn more about them and their life experiences!

Great gallery. Many thanks for sharing!
I hope I’m right in guessing that the lighter areas in the darker images show some sort of temple ritual:)
By the way, I love the chiaroscuro effect. It makes these pictures quite dramatic.
